Mining, explained

Mining FAQ

From your first connection to your next block. Practical answers for mining with BlockSniper.

Getting started

Do I need a BlockSniper account?

No. Connect your miner with a valid BCH payout address and open its statistics without signing up. A free account adds address monitoring, privacy settings, Telegram alerts and supported rental controls.

What do I enter in my miner?

Open Mining setup, enter your BCH payout address and a rig ID, then generate the connection values. Copy the pool URL, worker username and password exactly. Your website login is not your payout address.

Can I use an ASIC or rented hashpower?

Yes, use compatible SHA-256 mining hardware or a rental that lets you choose the BCH pool endpoint and worker login. Confirm the destination in your provider before starting; choosing another pool sends the work there.

How do I return to my mining page?

Use Find my miner on the homepage or in the Pool menu. Paste your BCH address or address.worker username. Public miner pages can be remembered in this browser; use Forget in the lookup to remove the shortcut.

Blocks and rewards

When does solo mining earn a reward?

Your mining identity earns a reward when its work finds a valid block. Ordinary shares measure work; they do not accumulate a payable balance. Other miners finding blocks does not pay your address.

How are rewards paid, and what is the pool fee?

The solo pool fee is 2% of a found block reward. The remaining reward is assigned directly to your BCH address in the block’s coinbase transaction. There is no BlockSniper wallet balance to withdraw.

Why is a found block reward not spendable yet?

A coinbase reward is newly created in the block, not a normal wallet transfer. BCH enforces a 100-block maturity period before it can be spent. Network block times vary, and an orphaned block does not produce a spendable reward.

Can I mine directly to an exchange address?

Check that your receiving wallet accepts BCH coinbase rewards before mining. Some custodial services do not credit them or require extra confirmations. An address you control avoids depending on an exchange to recognize the reward.

Hashrate, shares and luck

Does 100% effort mean a block is due?

No. Effort compares accumulated work with the average work expected at the network difficulty. It is not a countdown or a guaranteed chance. A round can finish below 100% or continue far above it.

Why does the pool show a different hashrate from my miner?

Pool hashrate is estimated from received shares over a time window. New connections, rejected shares and natural variation affect short readings. Compare the same averaging window, then check your connection and rejected shares if the difference persists.

Does a lower share difficulty make blocks easier to find?

No. Share difficulty controls how often your miner reports work to the pool; the network still sets the block target. Start with the setup page’s automatic difficulty unless your hardware or rental provider requires a specific value.

Privacy and smart controls

What is public when I mine without an account?

Mining without an account does not make activity invisible. The active-miner directory shows payout addresses and basic hashrate. Account privacy can restrict detailed miner pages, while pool totals and blockchain records remain public. Emails, account names and private labels are not directory fields.

What does MaxProfit do after a block?

For connected, supported BCH rentals that allow cancellation, MaxProfit detects a qualifying block win and requests an automatic stop to preserve unused budget. Provider rules, detection and API delays still apply. It does not increase the chance of finding a block.

How is AI StopLoss different?

AI StopLoss watches the spending limit you choose for a supported, stoppable rental without a detected block. Limits can use USD, the order’s payment currency or a budget percentage. It requests a stop when the limit is reached; provider settlement and delays can change the final spend.

Can automation stop every miner or rental?

No. The control must be available for that specific order, its provider connection must work, and cancellation must be permitted. These rental controls do not switch off your physical ASIC. Check each order’s protection status and keep a way to stop mining yourself.

How do I get Telegram alerts?

Create a free account, add the mining addresses you want to monitor and link Telegram in your settings. Choose the available notifications there. Mining does not require Telegram, and alert delivery depends on the connection and notification services.
